We Made It!
Yesterday we’d planned to make it to Youngstown, Ohio. But when we checked our AAA camping book, we figured out there weren’t any listings near Youngstown. So we parked it early in a KOA in Streetsboro. It was a nice break, but the early stop resulted in a very long drive today.
By the time we arrived in Dumfries, VA, where we’d prepaid one night (the second place we prepaid for tonight, but that’s another story), I was kind of delirious. Drivers in the DC area are crazy! I’ve never been cut off so many times by so many different types of vehicle. The giant trucks that cut me off had size on their side, but the motorcycle was just plain dumb. Add to that the ubiquitous road work (your stimulus dollars at work)–which means sudden speed limit changes and no-shoulder roads–and I was on alert the whole drive.
But here we are. The park is beautiful. Wooded, with a cacophony of crickets. It’s warm enough that we didn’t turn on the heat and opened all the windows. So much better than having our water shut off because of freezing temperatures.
Tomorrow we’ll be at National Equality March events, but I’ll get around to reporting on LGBT rights in Maryland and Virginia. We’ll also try to take a picture of the park, so you can experience the reward of 3,000 miles of travel with us.
Thanks to everyone who’s been along for the ride so far. It’s far from over, but even though we are NOT married in Virginia, we’ve accomplished a huge feat by getting here.

YAY!! Glad you made it safely to VA and hope you have a fabulous time in DC!
